AICE Sociology Intro - Theorists - Comte, Marx, Weber, and Durkheim
I teach AICE/Cambridge Sociology. Before diving into the syllabus, I always provide an introduction to the origins and theorists. I have my students take Cornell Notes for this PPT. I also have a Cornell Notes Template available for free to download.
When You Purchase My Introduction, You Get The Following:
OVERALL 27 Pages Of Product
* 25-slide PowerPoint that provides an overview of the origins of sociology and the early theorists
* The PowerPoint May Be Edited. I provide a link to Google Drive To Get The PPT, Which You Can Edit. IT IS ON THE VERY FIRST PAGE of the Documents You Download When Purchasing This product!
* 2 student work opportunities, one contained within the PowerPoint and the other is a class activity
* The other activity is a fun group activity I call “Theory Toss!” – Early Sociologist Speed Game. The idea behind the game:
One student per team starts with the bean bag.
The teacher reads aloud a prompt (I provide 30+ prompts) describing a theory, belief, or contribution.
The player with the ball must:
Say which theorist the idea belongs to: Comte, Marx, Durkheim, or Weber
Toss the ball to a teammate after answering
If unsure, they may say “pass” and toss — but only once per round!
Continue until all prompts are used or the timer ends (about 10–12 minutes)
The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
